Medical Report June 29
I saw the orthopedic surgeon this morning after getting an MRI earlier in the week. The fall on the trail caused a hairline fracture of the tibia and and a bucket-handle tear of the lateral meniscus and some minor things like a Baker's cyst. If I don't jump up and down, the fracture will heal itself. I'm going to try physical therapy for a month to see how the meniscus responds and hopefully I can avoid surgery on my knee. I'm sad that this ends my hiking for the year but I can look out the window and see I have plenty that needs to be done in the garden. Being a wimp, I'll wait until these 100 degree temperature days are gone.

Sorry that your journey had to end this way! Enjoyed your journaling. You did a great job of hiking and writing. I'v always had the dream of hiking the trail, but it was just a dream. I don't think my knees would hold up to a 40lb. backpack along with the mental and physical challenges. Maybe next year you can take up where you left off. Get well and good luck!
ReplyDeleteCousin Pam, You are NOT a wimp and NEVER have been! You can claim several milestones through this challenging endeavor and wise that you recognized and took advice to end the hiking for this year. We'll be interested in your physical therapy results. Sorry I have missed following your journey the last few weeks.
